IT Professional Forum (ITPF)

Established in 1998, IT Professional Forum is an association of IT Professionals in Nepal. It was formally registered at the office of the Chief District Officer, Kathmandu as a Non-Governmental and Non-Profitable Organization in 2000. ITPF is also associated with the Social Welfare Council of Nepal and is a sectoral member of the Computer Association of

Nepal (CAN). ITPF members represent private, semi-government, government, academic and financial institutions in Nepal. ITPF has organized technical talks, awareness programs for computer usage, contributed to the design of a quality certification system for the computer professionals in Nepal. It has been advocating and engaged in providing policy support to the government in the area legislation, implementation of electronic procurement system. ITPF has maintained a very good rapport with the local business community through the Federation of Nepal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and the Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC).

2. Initial Partners from His Majesty's Government

High Level Commission for Information Technology (HLCIT)

A seven-member High Level Commission for Information Technology was constituted on the 25th of August 2003 under the chairmanship of The Rt. Honorable Prime Minister of Nepal with a view to (i) providing strategic direction and formulating appropriate policy responses for the development of ICT sector in the country, (ii) harnessing these technologies to meet the key development challenges including governance reform, and (iii) catalyzing economic growth for poverty reduction.

The key objective of the HLCIT will be to oversee the implementation of the National IT Policy and strategy as well as to provide strategic policy direction and support to the government to build knowledge-based institutions and industries.

The Commission believes that the Incubator System in Nepal is the need of the hour and any support extended to it will go a long way towards strengthening the IT capabilities in the country.

3. Initial Partners from Trade and Commerce Organization

Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC)

The Nepal Chamber of Commerce, established in the year 1952, is the first Chamber of Commerce in the Kingdom of Nepal. At present, it has more than 10,000 registered members (firms). Located in Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal, the NCC has been playing a remarkable role in business promotion and assisting His Majesty's Government of Nepal in the formulation of its commercial, industrial and fiscal policies.

The prime objective of the NCC is to assist in the development of the national economy through the promotion and protection of commerce and industries both in the private and public sectors. Its leading tasks:
  • To foster good relationships and unity among the members of the trading community and industrialists.
  • To develop links with commercial and industrial institutions around the world and build an environment of cooperation for the betterment of the national economy.
  • To organize trade and industrial fairs and to facilitate Nepali participants in such fairs.
  • To issue certificates of origin to Nepali products.
  • To establish or encourage the establishment of academic institutions related to commerce, industry, finance etc., and to hold workshops, seminars, and training and research programs.
The Nepal Chamber of Commerce has realized the need of a business incubation system in the country, has expressed its interest to collaborate, and has pledged its full support for the venture.

4. Initial Partners from Academic Institutions

4.1 Kathmandu University (KU)

Kathmandu University was established on the 11th of December 1991 with a vision to become a world-class university devoted to bringing knowledge and technology to the service of the country. The Right Honorable Prime Minister is the chancellor of the university. The university campus at

Dhulikhel was inaugurated by His Royal Highness Crown Prince in August 1995. Kathmandu University is an independent, non-profit, non-government institution that was created through a private initiative. It is being developed as an institution of higher learning dedicated to maintain high standards of academic excellence.

The objective of Kathmandu University is to provide undergraduate and post graduate programs in the fields of engineering, science, management, arts, education and medical sciences. Till today, it has been providing (i) undergraduate courses in engineering (computer, electrical & electronics, and mechanical) and the sciences (pharmacy, biology and applied biology), (ii) undergraduate studies in music, (iii) a program in management (Master in Business Administration), and (iv) short-duration courses provided by the School of Arts and the School of Education.

4.2 Kathmandu Engineering College (KEC), Tribhuvan University

The Kathmandu Engineering College, affiliated to the Tribhuvan University (the oldest university in Nepal), was established in 1998, with a view to generate skilled manpower in the fields of engineering and architecture within the country.

It runs on the collective efforts of Nepali educationists who have dedicated their lives for the development of the education system in Nepal. KEC believes not only in imparting a high level of engineering education to its students but also in creating a competitive and friendly learning environment in the college.

It's objective is to produce qualified and competent engineers needed to meet the national aspirations and goals. KEC is also devoted to performing various research and development projects so as to strengthen the engineering base of the country and come up with technological breakthroughs in the near future.

The Kathmandu Engineering College believes that this venture will definitely benefit its students and has pledged its support for a possible collaboration with the ITPF on the matter.
