"Business Incubator Planning for Nepal
- Inception Briefs".
Although Nepal has been working in the areas
of enterprise development & entrepreneurship
development, business development services
in the past; the initiative of business
incubation is new phenomenon in Nepal. From
our study so far, the process has started
from last fiscal year in both INGO circle
such as Helvetas, SNV, UNDP and in the government
organizations such as Ministry of Industry,
Commerce and Supply, Department of Cottage
and Small Industries, Industrial Enterprise
Development Institute, High Level Commission
for Information Technology, etc.
As per the infoDev program of the World
Bank, IT Professional Forum has received
a grant for the planning of business incubator
initiative in Nepal. The objective of this
initiative is to plan for the business incubation
services to promote for the private sector
development in Nepal with the integration
and effective use of Information Communication
Technology in the businesses and small enterprise
development process.
This project is very timely when various
INGOs and Government agencies were beginning
to consider business incubators as a new

and methodology for the private
sector development & poverty alleviation.
We hope through this project we can bring the
synergy from various development sectors and
contribute to the economic development of the
country. On this occasion, IT Professional Forum
also call for closer cooperation among the agencies
involved for the synergy of Business Incubator
Initiative in Nepal to bring about definitive
social and economic change in the society.
The objective of this seminar is to:
- Bring together stakeholders/partners of
business incubators in Nepal to a common platform
- Establish a national network to bring synergy
to the initiative
- Share experiences & resources for the
development of business incubators in Nepal
- Receive suggestions for the planning of
business incubation services for the overall
business innovation and private sector development
of Nepal
- Identify further stakeholders, resource
persons, agencies in business incubation in
Nepal & abroad.
During the initial period, we have consultations
with some of the institutions and resource persons
involved in business incubation in Nepal and in
the days to come we will increase the consultations
with all possible stakeholders. We are planning
to conduct Business Incubator Environment &
Need Assessment survey and training. The final
goal of this project is to bring forward Business
Plan for the Business Incubators in Nepal. The
project is to be completed within one year, 6
July, 2005. We hope that the business plan, the
final outcome of this project, will be able to
serve the interests of HMG, Private sector, Donor/Funding
agencies to take it further in the path developing
Nepalese economy.
The seminar was successful in bringing Awareness
on Business Incubation and it has tried to build
a network of initial partners, stakeholders, back
stage actors and potential partners and will share
the knowledge and experience among them.
IT Professional Forum’s motto is to bring
ICT enabled development of Nepal. Business Incubator
Initiative project is a leap forward in this direction.
We hope to work for the development of Nepal,
the ICT way. Recently we have put forward a public
procurement portal (e-procurement) www.bolpatra.com.np
for the transparency & efficiency in the public
procurement process.
